An Untold Life: Slave-owner Dorothy Little

The British Library’s Untold Lives Blog offers a window into some of the research being conducted on little known histories.  The blog focuses on those lives that often get overlooked when researchers investigate the past, like those of dockworkers James Inglis, described as a ‘Negro’, and Richard Lane, ‘a man of Colour’ who feature in the very first entry. There are many other fascinating entries available, including one written by LBS project member Hannah Young concerning slave-owner Dorothy Little. Hannah’s exploration of Dorothy’s fight to claim compensation highlights the extent to which slave-ownership permeated British society, crossing class and gender lines.
